Hyperandrogenism, a clinical hallmark of PCOS, can cause inhibition of follicular development, microcysts in the ovaries, anovulation, and menstrual changes. 1 The disorder can be morphological (polycystic ovaries) or predominantly biochemical (hyperandrogenemia).
